On Monday 6th June, North Street surgery in Keighley was pleased to mark a new chapter of healthcare when it began to welcome patients as a One Medicare surgery.
The GP surgery, which sits on Keighley's main road, has been providing NHS services to the local community for over 20 years. The contract for the surgery was recently won by independent healthcare provider One Medicare, which run its Head Office from nearby Arthington, West Yorkshire.
One Medicare will strive to achieve better healthcare for its new patients and will soon be providing new services such as travel and holiday vaccinations, private cytology and health awareness days at North Street.
Dr Richard Jenkins, Group Medical Director for One Medicare said: "As a company we are looking forward to the challenges that face us during this period of change for North Street. And as a doctor myself, I also anticipate great improvements in the health of our patients, including more easily accessible healthcare and education on self-care."
Longest serving staff member Patricia Emmett, who has been working at the practice for 22 years, also commented: "I have been at North Street for many years now and I have seen a lot of changes in the practice. I think that being a One Medicare surgery signifies great changes for us. We are a great practice, but I think that we will see improvements in both how the surgery is run and utmost, the health of our patients".
One Medicare officially took over North Street surgery on 6th June 2011. The company run another two GP practices in Leeds, West Yorkshire as well as three GP-led health centres in Derby, Grimsby and Sheffield.
