SHEFFIELD ARTIST PETE MCKEE SELECTS PICTURE PERFECT YOUNGSTERS

The Sheffield City GP Health Centre has unveiled a new look thanks to hundreds of primary school children across Sheffield, whose artwork will feature in meeting and consulting rooms as part of an initiative to involve the local community.

The Art Challenge was held to celebrate the centre's extended opening hours, from 8:00am until 8:00pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year, with the best entries chosen to feature as part of the health centre,s new community-themed look.

Of the hundreds of entries received in The Art Challenge, 12 youngsters from schools across the region were selected as winners by a panel, which included Sheffield artist Pete McKee. The designs will also appear in a new calendar which will take pride of place in the reception.

The budding artists were presented with their prizes by Pete McKee, whilst attending a ceremony at the centre and received tips and comments from Pete. Katie Barnes, age 8, from Brook House Junior School, was chosen by Pete as the overall winner for the competition for her picture, receiving £50 of leisure passes and the first entry in the calendar.

The competition, which ran from November 2009 until January 2010, received entries from primary school children across Sheffield and Yorkshire, who submitted pictures under the theme 'my family and me'.

Pete McKee said: "The competition was a great success. We received some fantastic entries and it was great to see the community get really involved with the competition. Judging was a tough job due to the high standard of entries, but the 12 winners we selected showed real promise."

The pictures will be showcased around the centre's various facilities, as well as the community calendar, bring a great feeling of community and highlight the centreâs great offering.â
The winning entries are available to view in the Health Centre on Broad Lane and online at www.walkinwhenyouneedus.com.
