Sheffield City GP Health Centre opens April 1st
NHS patient care took a step forward this week as Sheffield residents began registering at the city's latest state-of-the-art health centre. The Sheffield City GP Health Centre will offer NHS healthcare services to anybody living in Sheffield whether they are registered at the centre or not.
Mr Christopher Coates, a resident of Millsands in Sheffield was one of the first people to register with One Medicare @ Rockingham House, the GP practice within the centre, and was delighted to be given the honour of cutting the ribbon to celebrate the opening of the building. The facilities will be particularly useful for those working in the city who are not able to access their local GP during normal surgery hours. Mr Coates, an IT contractor living and working in Sheffield city centre said, 'This is a fantastic new health centre for Sheffield and I am really pleased to be able to register at the surgery. It has brilliant facilities and flexibility with appointments will be great for people in the centre.'
The Sheffield City GP Health Centre is open 8am to 8pm seven days a week. Any resident of Sheffield can simply walk in and see a doctor or a nurse or phone and book an appointment in advance. You can register with the GP practice as a patient if you wish to or remain registered with your current doctor and still access the services.
Dr Philip Earnshaw, One Medicare's Medical Director, commented 'It is inspiring to be instrumental in delivering this service to the Sheffield community. One Medicare is thrilled to be offering the very best healthcare from our new state-of-the-art facility. We are looking forward to developing services to meet the needs of this community and welcoming members of the public to the centre.'
The centre will also provide services such as vaccinations, immunisations, referrals to hospital consultants where necessary , health promotion and disease prevention advice and it will also offer healthcare services to homeless people.
Penny Brooks-Cordon, Director of Standards and Engagaement at NHS Sheffield, says: "One Medicare met very tough clinical, financial and technological criteria to be selected as the provider for the city GP centre and we're confident they can provide a first class service for the people of Sheffield. Our research suggested that people welcome the plans for a clinic in the city centre and it will be well-used by both patients that register and those who may need to see a doctor outside normal hours. As well as serving the growing number of people who live close to the city centre, we believe it will provide a convenient and accessible service for those who work in the city. Patient satisfaction is also very important to NHS Sheffield and One Medicare will be closely monitored to ensure it meets all of the exacting NHS quality standards.
The Sheffield City GP Health Centre is situated on the corner of Rockingham Street and Broad Lane next to Sheffield University's Faculty of Engineering. For more information please contact Sheffield City GP Health Centre on 0114 241 2700 or visit www.onemedicare.co.uk.
